Sectional XI Divisional Championships
The Boys Varsity Cross Country Team competed in the Section XI Divisional Championships on Tuesday, October 24th and took 12th out of 28 teams. Senior capt. Matt Cohen led the attack with an outstanding 8th place performance on the grueling 5000 meter course at Sunken Meadow State Park. His time of 17:46.0 places him among the top 50 cross country athletes in the county. Junior Emmet Farnan also ran a personal best of 18:30.6 to take 2nd for the Marauders. The team is hitting it's stride just in time for next Friday's State Qualifier which will also be held at "The Meadow". Other fine performances were turned in by seniors Will Norris, and Pernell Gulley, as well as juniors Kareem Roberts and Rich Arcuri.
Successful Manhattan College Meet
The Boys Varsity Cross Country team had a very successful meet at the Manhattan College Invitational this past weekend. This meet is the largest cross country meet in the United States. It is run at Van Cortlandt Park in NY city, the most famous cross country course in the U.S. There the Marauders took 8th place in the Varsity "C" Race with outstanding races from Matt Cohen, Emmet Farnan, Will Norris, and Glen Zachary, all of who came home with medals. The team then went to Sunken Meadow Park on Tuesday and lost by 3 points to No. Babylon, evening their league record to 2-2. Will Norris ran a super race for the home team with a time of 16:58 for the rugged 3 mile course at "the meadow". Next the Marauders will travel to Rhode Island this Friday, where they will compete in the Brown University Northeast Championships.
First Annual Cross Country Festival
On Tuesday, the boy's cross country team joined the girls team in hosting the first annual Bay Shore Cross Country Festival. Athletes from Gardiner Manor and South Country elementary schools competed for grade level team trophies and individual medals in races of distances of up to 600 meters.
It was an exciting day for the young athletes, who not only competed, but got a chance to watch a varsity high school race as both the girls and boys teams ran against league opponents. The boys lost a close race to rival Half Hollow Hills East. The team was led by senior captains Will Norris and Matt Cohen, with strong support from Emmet Farnan,and Pernell Gulley. The loss dropped the boys from the ranks of the undefeated to a league III record of 2-1. The team will travel to Van Cortland Park in the Bronx this week end for the Manhattan College Invitational, the largest cross country meet in the United States! The following week the team will compete at the Brown University Invitational in Rhode Island.
Bay Shore Defeats East Islip
The Boys Varsity Cross Country Team ran league record to 2-0 with a win over East Islip at Sunken Meadow State Park.
The Marauders easily handled the Redmen, with senior captains Will Norris and Matt Cohen leading the way. Junior Emmet Farnan and Senior Pernell Gully also ran strong races. Senior Glen Zachary rounded out the scoring for Bay Shore. The team looked sharp, especially after last weekend's trip to 6 Flags Great Adventure, in New Jersey, where the team posted a top 12 finish in the Great Safari Invitational, and then enjoyed a fun day in the park. Again it was seniors Will Norris, and Matt Cohen pacing the team, with strong support from Farnan, and Gulley. Kareem Roberts and Keith McLeod also had fine races for the Marauders. Next up is the St Anthony's Invitational this coming Saturday at Sunken Meadow Park, and then the Marauders will host Half Hollow Hills East at Gardiner's Park on Montauk Hwy. in Bay Shore on Tuesday. It will be part of the first annual Bay Shore Cross Country Festival in which not only the boy's team will run, but the girls will take on North Babylon in a league III dual. Then, two of our elementary schools along with our Middle School will also compete in the day's action. There will also be a fun run for anybody who wishes to join us for an exciting day of racing at Gardiner's Park this coming Tuesday, Oct. 4th!
Bay Shore Defeats West Islip
The Varsity Boys Cross Country Team opened their league season with a victory over rival West Islip. The Marauders were led by senior captains Will Norris and Matt Cohen. Juniors Emmet Farnan and Rich Arcuri with support from senior Glenn Zachary rounded out the scoring for Bay Shore. Other strong performances were turned in by Ethan Corcoran and Kareem Roberts. The Marauders will travel to Jackson N.J. this weekend to run at the Six Flags Great Safari Invitational, where part of the race is through the animal kingdom exhibit!
Bay Shore Season Opener
The Bay Shore Boys Varsity Cross Country Team opened their season at the Suffern Invitational, held at Bear Mountain State Park, this past Saturday. The Marauders took 7th place in their race, and 13th overall, in a field of 40 teams. Junior Emmet Farnan led the attack with senior captains Matt Cohen and Will Norris in close pursuit. Junior Rich Arcuri and senior Pernell Gulley rounded out the top five for Bay Shore.
The Junior Varsity squad took 7th place in their race as well, with Kareem Roberts and Ethan Corcoran pacing the team. Also turning in some nice early season performances were sophomores John Moran, Ricky Martin, Will and Tom Fullerton, Tim Bryant and Freshman Anthony Caligure.
The Maruaders will open their league season this Tuesday at Sunken Meadow State Park, when they take on West Islip.
