Bay Shore High School 2011 Girls Cross-Country Results

Bay Shore Cross-Counntry
@Sunken Meadow
Tuesday - October 18, 2011
Cloudy, 73 degrees

This was our final dual meet of the season, against Walt Whitman. We had a very good meet and took the first seventeen places, and had our fastest 5 & 7 person average of the season. In our first meet, we averaged 21:05.2 for our top 5, and 21:26.8 for our top 7 runners. Today, we averaged 20:17.8 for our top 5, and 20:33.2 for our top 7. Three of our top five runners are eighth graders!!! Lindsay Arcuri and Jasmin Reyes (8th grader) tied for first with a time of 19:47, both seasonal bests. Aviana Goode (8th grader) ran a seasonal best of 20:19 to place 3rd. Paige Leggio was 4th running a big pb with a time of 20:48. This was her best race ever! Caelyn Reilly (8th grader) had a pb 20:48 to place 5th. Great race for Caelyn, who gets better every time she races! Danielle Rowe was 6th with a time of 21:11. Sabrina Esposito (9th grader) also has run great all season. Sabrina placed 7th with a pb 21:12. Nia McCaslin (9th grader) pb 21:42, Jessica Gelibert pb 21:43, Zulena Saravia pb 21:43, and Claire Moran 21:44 placed 8-9-10-11. Pb’s were turned in by Colleen Kunz 22:17, Marisol Nazario 22:28, Cassandra Crooks 24:07, Jacqueline Anderson 24:21, Norma Miller 24:40, Breanna Johnson 24:51, Nicolette Danzy 24:55, Michaela Szekalski 28:13, Maya Dixon 29:52 and Massiel Peralta 30:35. It was nice having Lizzy Volavka back running. Alyssa Gravina struggled today, dealing with a sore back. She has had a terrific season. Not running were Paige Golembeski, Cesia Andrade, Mallory Wood, Melinda Czaja, Regina Peattie, and Caitlin Ilchuk.

Bay Shore Cross-Country Day
@ Gardiner’s Park
Tuesday – October 4, 2011
Cloudy, light rain, 64 degrees

The First Annual Bay Shore Cross-Country Day was held at Gardiner’s Park. We had a terrific turnout, with our new Superintendent of Schools Mr. Dion in attendance. Assistant Athletic Director Mr. Ted Nagengast, Principal Mr. Carlton Brown (Gardiner Manor), several teachers, retired teachers, parents, and former runners were also on hand to watch the festivites. Thanks would have to go to Ms. Tess Balzano and the rest of the Gardiner Manor staff, Ms. Finola Schmidt and the rest of the South Country staff, Coaches Mr. Kurt Langer and Mr. Jim Johnson, and the Gardiner’s Park Director Jenn. Special thanks also to both the Girls and Boys Varsity Cross-Country Teams. We certainly will iron out some of the wrinkles for next year, but it was an overwhelming success! Running is something every one of us can do throughout our lives, and we can encourage our youngsters to get involved and stop the obesity problem we have in the United States. Any parents that have any questions about running, feel free to contact any of the Physical Education Teachers, or feel free to e-mail me  (steveborbet@yahoo.com). Here are the results of the races held today. Cross-Country scoring - add up the top five runners from each school, with the lowest score winning. If a team goes 1-2-3-4-5, it is considered a shutout. If a team gets the top seven places, the score would be 15-50.

Girls Varsity:      Bay Shore  16  North Babylon  47   (5000 meter run)
This was the first High School XC race ever run at Gardiner’s Park. The Bay Shore Girls ran very well in defeating North Babylon 16-47. Junior Lindsay Arcuri, set a course record, with a convincing win on her birthday! Lindsay’s time was 19:48. Jasmin Reyes (8) – 20:08, Danielle Rowe (12) – 20:27, and Aviana Goode (8) – 20:43 placed 2-3-4. Other top fifteen finishers were: Nia McCaslin (9) – 21:19, Caelyn Reilly (8) – 21:22, Claire Moran (10) – 21:28, Zulena Saravia (12) – 21:44, Gisell Guzman (12) – 21:44, Sabrina Esposito (9) – 22:09, Alyssa Gravina (11) – 22:15, Colleen Kunz (12) – 22:35, and Marisol Nazario (11) – 23:33. We have a very young team that is starting to run very well! We are 2-1 in League Three, with two meets to go. Our lone loss was the Northport, the #4 team in New York State.
