Eddy Games @ Schenectady High School
Saturday – May 21, 2011 (sunny, 75 degrees)

Jessica Gelibert Wins 100 and 400 Hurdles!!!

We actually had a sunny, warm day, no wind day to race in! This has been one of the worst seasons for weather, that I can remember. Jessica Gelibert posted some fast times at the Eddy Games, the oldest track meet in New York State. To start her day, she anchored our 4 x 100 meter relay to our fastest time of the season, and the fastest time in Suffolk County. Our 49.77 qualified us for the final. Then she had to run three rounds of the 100 hurdles, where she cruised to easy wins in the trials – 14.94 and the semis – 14.91. In the finals, she set a New School Record of 14.37 to win the 100 hurdles, and also ran the fastest time in New York State!!! Jessica came back to win the 400 hurdles in 61.22. She now owns the two fastest times in NYS in the 400 hurdles! Many coaches felt she should have been selected as the MVP of the Meet, but a local girl from Holy Name Academy in Albany won it. We had several outstanding performances in our final tune-up for the Suffolk County Division 1 Championships coming up next week! In the 100 meter dash, Brianah Allen ran a pb 12.96 to reach the semis, as did Patrice Baston -13.38 and Josephine Anderson – 13.22. In the 200 meter dash, Brianah Allen ran terrific placing 4th with a huge pb of 25.66. She was very close to winning the race!!! Freshman Erica Silhan ran a pb in the 100 hurdles – 16.99 to advance to the semis. In the 400 meter dash, two freshman ran pb’s. Cesia Andrade – 60.53 and Jacqueline Anderson - 61.74. In the 800 meter run, Aasha Jackson ran a pb of 2:22.31. Regina Peattie – 2:22.57 and Karina Gonzalez – 2:29.37 ran seasonal best times!  Danielle Rowe also ran a seasonal best of 2:14.10 to place 3rd overall. This was a break through race for Danielle, who also put herself in a position to win the race!!! Alexis Barrau placed 5th in the long jump, - 17’1”. Danely Rodriguez threw a pb in the discus – 90’6”. Aviana Goode set a pb in the pole vault – 7’6”, on her birthday!!! The 4 x 100 meter relay of Brianah Allen, Anisa Toppin, Alexis Barrau, and Patrice Baston placed 5th with a time of 50.85. Jessica Gelibert just finished the 400 hurdles, so we kept her out of the finals of the 4 x 100. To finish off the meet, our 4 x 400 meter relay of Aasha Jackson, Cesia Andrade, Jacqueline Anderson, and Danielle Rowe placed 2nd with a time of 4:02.43. Danielle Rowe ran a 57.8 relay split! Team scores (top ten): 1. Saratoga 67; 2. Shenendehowa 62; 3. Bay Shore 42; 4. Colonie 40; 5. Holy Name Academy 37; 6. Northport 36; 7. Guilderland 30; 8. Sachem East 29; 9. Queensbury 26; 10. Emma Willard 20. These top ten teams are perennial powers in NYS!!!

The Smithtown Invitational is always a meet we try to win, but we also want to start stepping up our performances. The weather is starting to get nice (finally), and we are starting to round into shape. All the big meets are starting this week, so it was important to see where we are as a team. We had a terrific meet! We probably had about two-thirds of the team perform pb’s (personal bests), and we won the team title over Longwood, Northport and Connetquot. Penn Relays @ Philadelphia, Pa.
Thursday – April 22, 2010 Friday - April 23, 2010 (sunny, 63 degrees)

The Penn Relays are the oldest and largest relay meet in the world. We traveled down to Philadelphia by train, after our dual meet against Commack. This was an adventure. We left the meet around 5:30pm, knowing we had the meet won. The bus driver did a terrific job getting us to the Babylon train station from Commack. We arrived a few minutes before the train left for Penn Station. We then took N.J. Transit for the first time, switching at Trenton. We arrived in Philly around 10:45pm, and took SEPTA (the subway) to our hotel. Walked about a mile from the station and then waited for our pizza to arrive, since all the restaurants were closed. Finally got to bed around 1:00am. Took the subway to the meet the next morning. The 4 x 100 relay of Josephine Anderson, Essence Rogers, Audreina Blanding and Alexis Barrau ran a seasonal best of 51.47. They ran very well and that was without eighth graders Imani McGhee and Anisa Toppin. Eighth graders cannot compete in the Penn Relays. The 4 x 400 meter relay would place 2nd with a seasonal best time of 4:07.83, to win silver medals. Aasha Jackson was last around the first turn, getting caught in the pack at the start. She stayed outside and moved up throughout the race, and put us in pretty good position. Darleen Eiermann, just coming back from an injury, ran a terrific 60.8 split to get us into 2nd place. Ninth grader Kelsey Palomino would run a pb 63.8 to hand off 3rd. Sophomore Danielle Rowe ran a pb 58.8 to move us into 2nd place. Both relays ran very well, and it will be exciting to see how fast we can run later in the season. We had to scratch out of the 4 x 800, with Darleen just coming back and Sara Andrade not making the trip.

Ross Goldin Memorial Developmental Meet
Saturday – March 20, 2010 @ Bay Shore H.S.
(sunny, 75 degrees)

The Ross Goldin Developmental Meet -

This memorial meet will now be held in honor of Ross Goldin, who passed away on March 5, 2010. Goldin was a terrific coach and friend of Bay Shore Track & Field and will be missed. A scholarship fund will be set up in his name and more information will be forthcoming. Bay Shore had several outstanding performances, especially for a season opening meet! In the triple jump, eighth grader Imani McGhee had a pb 37’5ø”. Ninth grader Kelsey Palomino also had a pb 36”2”. Eighth grader Anisa Toppin also jump a pb of 33’5÷”. In the long jump, Alexis Barrau went 16’9ö”. These jumps are outstanding and will make the NYS list! In the high jump, Mariah Seignious went 4’10”, Jenee Rogers 4’8”, and freshman Nailah Braxton a pb 4’6”. Newcomer Ariel Mitchell also went 4’4”. The Marauders kept some of our athletes out of this meet, so they could take a break between a long winter season, and the start of the outdoor season.
