Vol. 4 Friday – December 16, 2011
Jessica Gelibert & Erica Silhan Notch 1st Place Finishes!!!
This was a great meet for Bay Shore. Every single athlete competed well, and it was fun to watch as a coach. I cannot remember a meet where everyone did such a terrific job! Jessica Gelibert continues to run well. Jessica won the 55 meter hurdles with an easy 8.58. Eighth grader Aviana Goode ran a pb 9.34 to place 5th. Nailah Braxton was second at the last hurdle, and was accidently hit by the hurdler in the next lane and fell! Nailah was certain to have run a pb and would have run under 9.20!!! When we get Erica Silhan running the hurdles next week, we have a very good shuttle hurdle relay, which is an event we want to run at the New Balance Indoor Nationals in March! Jessica Gelibert also won the 600 meter run with a pb time of 1:40.10. Cesia Andrade continues to get better each meet with a pb 1:43.83 to get 3rd. Jacqueline Anderson also ran another pb by placing 9th with a time of 1:47.29. Newcomer Cynthia Del Core ran a gutsy race with a pb of 1:47.39. Cynthia went out very fast the first 200 meters, which hurt her later in the race. Look out for her later in the season. She is very talented! In the 300 meter dash, Anisa Toppin won the seeded section with a pb 43.09. A girl from Sayville would run 43.07 in another section. I am sure Anisa would have liked to race this girl head to head! Brianah Allen ran a very strong race to place 7th with a time of 45.27. Tanisha Combs ran a pb 46.42 to place 15th. In the 1000 meter run, Danielle Rowe finally had a good race, placing 4th with a pb time of 3:09.81. With a little confidence, she will look to break the 3:00 barrier in this event! Regina Peattie had her best race of the season placing 10th with a time of 3:17.03. Nia McCaslin, just coming back from a broken wrist, ran her first race of the season. Nia was 14th with a time of 3:20.18. Very solid performance for this talented 9th grader! Sabrina Esposito ran an eleven second pb with a time of 3:24.07. Team scores were not kept, but unofficially we would have easily won the meet. 1. Bay Shore 96.5; 2. Northport 52; 3. Bronxville 29; 4. Sayville 20.5; 5. Somers 18; 6. Miller Place 14; 7. Arlington 11; 7. Harrison 11; 9. North Shore 10; 9. Staples (Ct.) 10. (25 teams competed). In the 4 x 200 meter relay, the team of Alexis Barrau, Patrice Baston, Tanisha Combs, and Brianah Allen placed 3rd with a time of 1:52.36. Tanisha had trouble getting a hold of the baton, which slowed us just enough to lose the lead. It was a very close finish with Harrison running 1:52.06, Northport 1:52.23, and our time of 1:52.36. Our second team of Josephine Anderson, Jacqueline Ulrich, Tayla Jones-Bigby and Kelsey Palomino placed 11th with a time of 1:57.27. The 4 x 1500 meter team of Jasmin Reyes, Lindsay Arcuri, Caelyn Reilly, and Paige Leggio ran very well placing 10th with a time of 20:47.95 (5:09 average). The field events were a strong point once again. In the high jump, Erica Silhan won with a pb 5’0”, and had a terrific attempt at 5’1”. Eighth grader Aviana Goode jumped a pb 4’10”, tied for 2nd. Avi is close to jumping her height, which doesn’t happen to often, especially at the high school level! Nailah Braxton also went 4’10” and tied for 2nd. This will be the high jump relay that competes at the Rhode Island Classic later in December. Add up these heights they jumped tonight, and we would break the meet record! In the pole vault, all three girls jumped 8’0”. Shaiya Williams, Genessis Miranda, and Idis Rivera tied for 4th place. In the triple jump, Alexis Barrau placed 2nd with a jump of 35’3.50”. Kelsey Palomino was 3rd with a jump of 35’3”. Anisa Toppin was 4th with a 35’2” effort. In the shot put, Danely Rodriguez placed 2nd with a toss of 29’2”. Audreina Blanding was 5th with a throw of 28”0”. Newcomer Kelani Jackson threw 26’4.25” to place 10th. If we continue to compete like this, this will be a fun season!
